WTF! Mybook? Facespace?

Thu Apr 24, 2008, 10:13 AM
Is anyone else getting sick of the seemingly endless amounts of "deviations" that are basically stick-figure drawings or pictures from cell phones or the ever popular self portrait of some <18 year old girl holding the camera herself and doing the "look up and away"??? A favorite hobby of mine is to go to the browse button and sit there for 15 min or so and fav or comment on any of the newest deviations I find interesting. From this I have noticed that deviant art is looking more and more like any number of typical social networking sites and more and more works worthy of a scraps section are being classified as deviations.

This perpetually chaps my ass! While deviantart is undoubtedly a networking site, I was under the impression it was designed to get away from all those other sites and allow safe-haven for the artistic community. No? Maybe I am being selfish but screw it I don't care.

Now before the 1 of the 5 people that read this gets all pissy and decides to give me a earful (eyeful since I am reading it?) about criticizing peoples deviations let me clarify: I am not trying to be snobby or look down on other people. Look at my gallery, compared to 99% of the photographers here I suck and I know it. I am not trying to bitch about people’s skills or ability or anything of the sort, if anything I am bitching about people’s effort.

Every single photo I put up, whether it worked the way I wanted it to or not, I tried. Time and effort are spent on everything on my dA account and the same goes to all of my friends who post on this site -if it didn't it doesn’t get posted. Everyone starts somewhere and people improve at different rates so by all means if it means something to you and you tried your best, giver shit and put it up but this is not the place for that 30 second rendition of Bart Simpson you did during 3rd period history in the margins of your notebook.

Wonderful use of the word "perpetually".

And yeah Gmac has a strange knack for raising my blood pressure too. They did it again to me today...
